What is encaustic?

Encaustic is one of the oldest art forms dating back to the 5th century BC. The greek word encausticos means "to heat or burn in" and refers to the process of fusing layers of wax. Encaustic medium consists of melted, natural beeswax and dammar resin. My encaustic paintings are made with a combination of encaustic medium and oil paint and often contain found objects embedded in the wax.
